National Geographic Society recently hosted its national premiere, accompanied by release of the companion book and soon to be released CD soundtrack featuring Bette Midler, George Winston, Take Six and some of Waikiki's greatest performers. On March 10, 2001 the film premiered in Waikiki on a giant screen fronting Diamond Head, in the shadow of a full moon. Edgy's last film, Paniolo O Hawaii ~ Cowboys of the Far West, a tribute to America's first cowboys, broadcasts on National Geographic Channels Worldwide to over 17 countries in multiple languages from Chinese to Swahili. Veteran Los Angeles Times film credit Kevin Thomas wrote, "What Lee has done in irresistible fashion is a splendid example of the enduring power of the traditional documentary. The kind that brings alive an unfamiliar world in a straightforward manner that is as entertaining as it is informative." Edgy's films have premiered at the Smithsonian Institution and national museums; Warner Reprise released a companion soundtrack CD to the film Paniolo, and Public Radio International aired a one-hour special of excerpts from the film. National awards include the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Silver Award, the Chicago International Film Festival Silver Plaque (historical documentary category) & Individual Achievement- Writing award among others. Edgy was classically trained in piano and violin, graduated from Punahou School in Hawaii, studied fine art at the San Francisco Art Institute while contributing as a west coast illustrator for the National Observer. Living in California, she supported her fine arts pursuits while working as a Nina Blanchard model, appearing in numerous feature films, television commercials and series, including The Tonite Show and as co-host of the popular award winning children's program, "Bill Cosby's Picture Pages". In 1987 she began independently producing and composing. As an in-studio record producer, she produced famed Jamaican "Godfather of Reggae", Joe Higgs; The Wailers, and Dennis Brown. She has composed music with jazz legend Wayne Shorter and film composer Joseph Vitarelli, and her documentary films have been incorporated in national college curricula. Edgy continues to work with colleagues in New York and L.A., while residing in Honolulu where she is ecstatic about living "...back home, the only place where restaurants offer you a choice of three starches." Other recent works include production of a CD with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for the Office of Tibet.
